AC-to-DC Rectifiers: AEG PS Group offers switch-mode rectifier-based solutions that receive
AC power, as provided by a utility, and convert it using an AC-to-DC rectifier to create near-
100 % reliable, continuous and clean DC power outputs, typically at 24V or 48V. The converted
DC power is then provided to other components of the power system such as switching gear, con-
trol modules and systems and base station transceivers through the use of distribution components.
The conversion of AC power to clean (i.e. filtered) DC power at exact power levels is critical to
ensure continuous functionality of voltage-sensitive telecom systems;
Control modules and connections: The segment's products include a variety of control modules
for telecom power systems, including rectifier control modules (which monitor voltage, frequency
and current), battery management control modules (which monitor back-up power supply levels)
and monitoring control modules (which offer remote or local monitoring and interrogation to sup-
port problem solving and preventative maintenance). The division's control modules are available
for systems ranging from small, sub-rack-sized systems to network control modules monitoring up
to 120 rectifiers in large parallel systems.
AEG PS Group also operates in the Converter business, which includes a portfolio of industry-standard
isolated DC-DC converters and a range of AC-DC converters to power telecom and industrial applica-
tions and offer a wide choice of output voltage and current options.
Services
In its Energy Management Solutions sub-segment, AEG PS Group offers comprehensive services includ-
ing planning, installation, commissioning, ongoing maintenance and repair, consulting and provision of
spare parts for the types of systems and solutions that AEG PS Group markets. AEG PS Group offers
these services globally through its team of service professionals as well as through third-party service
partners.
In its Communications sub-segment, AEG PS Group offers extensive training, maintenance, replacement,
repair and consulting services in both, developed and emerging markets, through its own professionals
and third-party service partners. Given its extensive operating history and long-term customer relation-
ships with major telecom customers, Management believes that the existing installed product base offers
sizeable opportunities for growth in services. Additionally, AEG PS Group is focused on offering services
in high-growth emerging markets, where power reliability and availability are major concerns for telecom
services providers.
Strategy
Management is pursuing the following strategic objectives:
Maintain its technological leadership position in the Power Control Systems and Modules
sub-segment: In its Power Control System and Modules sub-segment AEG PS Group holds a
technologically leading position in the market. In anticipation of the next polysilicon production
capacity expansion wave, Management aims to maintain and strengthen AEG PS Group’s techno-
logical leadership and competitiveness in this area through technical improvements to existing in-
stallations that improve efficiency as well as introducing next generation product lines for new ca-
pacity. For example, in September 2010 AEG PS Group announced the introduction of the Thy-
robox PI power system which allows manufacturers of polysilicon to increase the production
output of their existing polysilicon reactors by 10 % to 20 %, depending on reactor configuration
and process condition. In addition, it intends to enhance performance and efficiency of its existing
Power Control System and Modules as well as to optimise cost structures through product devel-
opment and improvement. AEG PS Group also aims to expand the scope of the use of its power
control systems and modules to other applications by developing new product lines, such as the
operation of arc furnaces and electrolysis.
